FAQs

Zaam Community Health Development Organisation (ZACHEDO) was established in 1993 as Zaam Clinic, providing health interventions and treatment services to underserved communities in the Makindye division of urban slums. Over time, it evolved into Zaam Medical Centre and later into ZACHEDO, a registered Community Based Organisation (CBO) dedicated to comprehensive health care and community empowerment.

ZACHEDO recognizes that many health issues can be prevented at the community level. With this understanding, ZACHEDO focuses on empowering the community by providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage their health effectively. This approach targets a significant portion of the disease burden that can be prevented through community action.

In response to the increasing demand for inpatient and maternity services and recognizing the role of poverty as a barrier to accessing quality healthcare, ZACHEDO was established in 2011. It gained legal recognition as a registered Community Based Organisation (CBO) to better serve the needs of the slum communities.

ZACHEDO understands that poverty can limit access to quality healthcare. As part of its mission, ZACHEDO aims to bridge this gap by providing affordable and comprehensive healthcare services to the underserved urban slum populations. Additionally, ZACHEDO’s community empowerment initiatives aim to equip individuals with skills and knowledge to prevent common health issues and poverty.

ZACHEDO plays a vital role in promoting community-based prevention. By educating residents about preventive measures and providing them with skills to manage their health at the household level, ZACHEDO contributes significantly to reducing the disease burden within the communities it serves.
